COVID-19 Client Memo

To Our Valued Clients,

As the situation locally and worldwide continues to be fluid with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to assure you, we are available to assist with your insurance needs.  However, our employees, their families and our fellow citizens’ safety continue to be our top priority. If we need to make changes to our office hours, we will communicate that information as soon as possible.

We are following the recommendations of our state and city officials.  At this time, our office will remain open.  We are, however, requesting that you refrain from personally visiting our office unless necessary.  Until further notice, phone, email and website communication is recommended.

Insurance Carrier Apps

If you have not done so already, this would be an ideal time to download and sign up for your insurance carrier’s APP.  You can perform most insurance transactions within the carrier’s APP.  These APPS are free and are a great tool.

PAYMENTS

You can drop off payments at our office through our drop box located next to the front door.  We can also take payments over the phone.  Another option is to visit your carrier’s website directly to pay your bill. Below are links to our main insurance providers.

If your employment and income has been directly affected by COVID-19, please let us know.  Many of our insurance carriers are ready to help with billing and payment issues, including the possible movement of billing due dates.

CLAIMS

In the event you have an insurance claim, please contact your insurance carrier directly.  Your auto insurance cards have the claim numbers on the back of your card.  In most cases, you can also begin a claim online – simply navigate to REPORT A CLAIM.  Beginning your claim by phone or website, will not delay your claim in anyway and is often the most efficient way to begin the claim process.

BUSINESS/COMMERCIAL CLIENTS

Many of you have questions and concerns regarding coverage if your business needs to or must close/shut down for a period of time.  We are gathering all the information we can from our carriers.  We are also waiting to see what relief the national and state governments may be providing to those impacted.  Please know we are here for you and will do our best to get the correct information into your hands.  We appreciate your patience as more information becomes available based on an ever-changing situation.

Thank you again for your patience as we navigate uncharted waters.  We will update you only as necessary with any changes to our current Oliver Insurance office plan.  For now, our hours remain 9 – 5, Monday through Friday (with lunch from 12:30-1). Stay safe, stay healthy and STAY HOME!

Sincerely,

Ryan Oliver

How do I choose an auto insurance policy in Oregon?

Those that are in the Canby, OR area will likely find that they need to have a car in order to get around town. To ensure that you are properly protected, getting an auto insurance policy is a necessity. While there are some complexities that come with choosing auto insurance, there are several tips that can be followed that could help to make this easier and clearer for you in the future.

Choose the Type of Coverage

The first tip to choosing an auto insurance policy in Oregon is to choose the type of policy. When you get auto insurance, you are only required by law to carry liability insurance. However, if you would like to be able to replace your vehicle with insurance proceeds after theft or an accident, you will want to upgrade to a full collision and comprehensive insurance policy.

Consider Deductible Level

Whenever you file an insurance claim, the insurance company will first require you to come out of pocket for your deductible. If you choose a high deductible auto insurance policy, your premiums won’t be as high. However, if you have to make a claim, you need to make sure that you have access to cash at least as much as your deductible. If you do not have this cash on hand, you should choose a lower deductible.

Picking an auto insurance policy is a big choice for anyone in the Canby, OR area. To ensure that you are making the right choice, you should call Oliver Insurance. The team of insurance professionals at Oliver Insurance can answer any questions that you have about all of your options and needs. This will help you get into a great auto insurance policy based on your situation.

What Types of Expenses Does Pet Insurance Cover

For many people, pets are like family members. Owning a pet comes with a lot of responsibility and can also come with lots of expenses. Between food, toys and accessories, you have a lot invested in your furry friend or friends. Pets also require medical care and much like people, regular exams can help to catch any issues early and are an important part of pet care. At Oliver Insurance in Canby, OR we offer pet insurance that can help you to provide for your pets.

Pet insurance is designed to cover the unexpected health issues that can arise with your pet. Like most human health insurance, policies usually don’t cover 100% and they also don’t usually cover routine exams and things like dental cleaning, which can be quite expensive. But, in the event of more catastrophic illnesses or accidents they can make the difference between affording to get the health care your pet needs and opting not to treat. Nobody really wants to be placed in that position.

Before you choose a particular policy make sure that it will provide the kinds of protection that you feel that you need.  Most policies won’t cover a pre-existing condition, congenital conditions, spaying and neutering, flea and tick treatments and ear cleaning. But if your pet gets hit by a car or develops cancer, you could find pet insurance to be a lifesaver. It is designed for these major events and not for routine care. You may be able to add a rider that will help with routine pet care. If this is something you want. Be sure to ask one of our agents about it.

Caring for your pets can be a big expense and pet insurance can help. At Oliver Insurance in Canby, OR we are happy to discuss our pet policies with you and come up with the best option for your pet and your budget. Give our office a call or stop by for a no-obligation quote.

The good weather during the year can make this a great mode of transportation for anyone. If you are going to get a motorcycle, it is important to make sure that you have a good insurance policy in place. There are several reasons why someone in Canby needs to have motorcycle insurance at all times.

Required by Law

The first reason to get motorcycle insurance in Canby is that it is actually required by law. Similar to when you are operating a car, you are going to need to have motorcycle insurance in order to stay in compliance with the state’s minimum insurance requirements. The state will require that you carry liability insurance at all times.

Lender Requirements

Many people end up taking out a loan when they buy a motorcycle. If you took out a loan, you are going to need to have motorcycle insurance at all times. The lender will want to make sure that their collateral is as well protected as possible. To do this, they will require that you carry motorcycle insurance with collision and comprehensive coverage.

Preparing Your Boat for Spring

Spring is right around the corner, which means it’s time to start preparing your boat for the water. Even though you took all the proper steps to prepare your boat for winter storage in Canby, OR, there are still some preparations you’ll need to do before hitting the water. To help ensure your boat is safe and ready for the water, Oliver Insurance has gathered a few tips to prepare your boat for spring.

Check the Fluids

Winterizing your boat meant making sure the oil was full and the oil filter was clean, but unfortunately even while in storage, it’s possible for water, dirt or debris to get into the oil. If you notice a creamy consistency in the oil, it typically indicates water. Make sure to drain the oil and replace it with new, clean oil. This is also the ideal time to check and fill all other fluids, including the gas.

Inspect for Damages

There are a number of things that can cause damages to the boat while it’s in storage. For instance, rodents often find their way into storage units and cause damage to life jackets, upholstery, and wiring. Carefully inspect all areas of the boat, including the electrical wiring and safety gear, such as life jackets, to ensure there are no rips or tears and replace all damaged items before putting the boat in the water.

Wash the Boat

Not only do you want your boat to look its best while on the water, but dirt and dust can also find its way into the motor, so it’s important to thoroughly wash the boat (inside and out). Make sure to apply conditioner to the upholstery to prevent the risk of drying from the sun. If necessary, take the boat to the local marina to have the engine steam cleaned.

One of the most important things to do when preparing your boat for spring is to make sure your insurance policies are up-to-date. Remember to make a copy of the policies to keep on hand in the boat. If you have made any changes to your boat or have replaced your old boat with a new one, don’t forget to let your insurance provider know about the changes.

Residents of Canby, OR interested in learning more information about boat insurance or upgrading their policy should contact Oliver Insurance.

Does Umbrella Insurance Only Cover Liability?

The short answer to whether umbrella insurance only covers liability is, essentially, yes. This policy gives people the means to fight or settle complicated claims that quickly exceed the liability limits of the standard policy. If you live in Canby, OR, Oliver Insurance wants you to have all the facts before deciding if buying umbrella insurance is the right move for you.

How Liability Works

Standard insurance policies will cover liability. So in case you make a mistake on the road or you neglect to wipe up a spill at home, you’re not left with the resulting bills to be paid out-of-pocket. But if you look closely at the fine print, you’ll see that your liability coverage does not extend indefinitely. And if you only have $25,000 for bodily injury, it’s not hard to see how this can run out pretty quickly.

Commercial Benefits

Umbrella insurance is usually associated with its commercial benefits because most people will only sue a person or entity with enough assets. So a CEO who’s constantly making deals and breaking hearts may take out an umbrella policy to ensure they’re covered in case they need to fight a claim or settle it outside of court. But the reality is that individuals may be more at risk than they think. Just one incident can result in disastrous implications if the policyholder doesn’t have enough coverage.

Contact Oliver Insurance

Our staff is here to serve the people of Canby, OR, so they have all the protection they need. Just one lawsuit can end up lasting for months with expenses mounting with every passing day. If you want to learn more about the types of umbrella insurance and who they’re meant to cover, we can help you understand your options.

3 Ways to Protect Your Inventory From Loss

Running a retail business can be overwhelming when you consider how many ways financial loss can affect your business. In Canby, OR, the agents at Oliver Insurance are available to provide you with tips on how to keep your company’s inventory safe and secure. Your inventory is the lifeblood of your business. It’s important that you understand how to protect it.

Install Security Cameras

Install security cameras throughout your store as well as your stockroom. This will allow you to keep tabs on your inventory whether your business is opened or closed. Security cameras will give you "eyes on" your business so that you can identify potential threats and notify the authorities if the need arises.

Inventory Your Stock

Keep an accurate inventory. If your business is small enough, you can take inventory ever six months. Larger businesses sometimes do an annual inventory and use POS technology to keep track of when items are sold. Keeping an up-to-date inventory is the best way to keep track of your sales, as well as your profit.

Have the Right Insurance in Place

Financial loss may still occur no matter how hard you try to protect it. Having the right type of insurance in place will help you recover from a devastating financial loss if your inventory is damaged, destroyed, or stolen.

Why do I need a home inventory

Owning a home in a beautiful place like Canby, OR is a dream come true. Located just 18 miles from Portland in the North Willamette Valley some might call this an idyllic location. But like everywhere else in the world, things can happen to damage your home. Talking to the experienced team at Oliver Insurance can give you the peace of mind that happens when you know that everything you have is adequately protected by home insurance. A home inventory can be invaluable when tragedy sticks your home.

A home inventory is just what it sounds like, a complete list of everything that you have in your home and any other buildings on your property. In the event that your home is hit by something like a tornado or a fire, your home may be completely destroyed. Even if it is only partially being able to remember exactly what you had prior to the event is not easy. You probably think that you know everything that you own but you are probably incorrect. Making an inventory will make that clear to you.

Go room to room and write down everything, not just the major pieces of furniture but all the smaller things as well. If you need to replace all of your Christmas decorations, could you remember every piece that you have? Include the exact model and brand of items you inventory. You should include your attic and basement as well. For more expensive items be prepared to show a sales slip or appraisal. Taking detailed pictures of each room is an important addition. Once you have completed the inventory, it should be stored in a safe place away from the home if at all possible.

A home inventory will be very welcome if anything ever happens to your home. To talk to an experienced insurance professional about your home inventory in Canby, OR, Oliver Insurance is ready and willing to share their experience with you. Stop by the office or give them a call for a no-obligation quote.
